Survey for secondary pupils
Pupil voice survey (secondary)
The annual survey for secondary pupils in Years 7 to 13: safety, belonging, behaviour, bullying, learning and teaching, relationships with staff, wellbeing and pupil voice, with a clear headline measure. About 5 minutes to complete.
What respondents read first
This survey asks what school is like for you, so we can make it better. It takes about 5 minutes. It is not a test and there are no right or wrong answers. You can skip any question you do not want to answer. Your teachers will not see who said what: answers are put together, and results are only shown for groups of 5 or more pupils. If you write something that makes us worried about your safety or someone else's, the school's safeguarding lead will read that comment. They will not know who wrote it, so they cannot come and find you. This survey is not the way to get help quickly, so if you need help now, talk to an adult you trust in school.
How anonymity works in this survey
- The school cannot see who answered. Nothing is reported until 10 people have answered.
- A group, such as one role or one year group, is shown only when 5 or more people in it have answered. Smaller groups are hidden.
- An answer chosen by fewer than 5 people is hidden, along with enough others that it cannot be worked out by subtraction.
- Written comments appear only once 10 people have answered.
The questions
Numbered in the order respondents see them.

Guide: How to run a pupil voice survey
- Secondary pupil survey with national comparison
Asks pupils in Years 7 to 11 thirteen questions from the Department for Education's national pupil panel, word for word, so each result sits beside the figure for pupils across England.
- Safety and bullying survey (secondary)
For pupils in Years 7 to 13: where pupils feel safe and less safe, how bullying and unkind language are dealt with, staying safe online and knowing who to tell. Pupils are never asked about anything that has happened to them.
- Belonging and attendance survey (secondary)
For pupils in Years 7 to 13: what makes it easier or harder to come to school, from friends, belonging and a trusted adult to worry, tiredness and being welcomed back.
- Enrichment and clubs
For pupils in Years 7 to 13: which clubs pupils attend, what stops them, whether they feel welcome, trips and visits, and what they would like the school to offer. Helps you decide what to run and who to reach.
