Survey for primary pupils
Pupil voice survey (primary)
The annual survey for children in Years 3 to 6: feeling safe, kindness and bullying, learning, adults who help, playtime and lunch, wellbeing and pupil voice. Short yes, not sure or no questions, about 5 minutes to complete.
What respondents read first
We want to know what school is like for you, so we can make it even better. It takes about 5 minutes. This is not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. You can skip a question if you want to. Your teachers will not see who said what. If you write something that makes us worried about you or another child, a grown-up whose job is to keep children safe (the safeguarding lead) will read it. They will not know it was you, so they cannot come and find you. If you need help, tell a grown-up you trust, like your teacher.
How anonymity works in this survey
- The school cannot see who answered. Nothing is reported until 10 people have answered.
- A group, such as one role or one year group, is shown only when 5 or more people in it have answered. Smaller groups are hidden.
- An answer chosen by fewer than 5 people is hidden, along with enough others that it cannot be worked out by subtraction.
- Written comments appear only once 10 people have answered.
The questions
Numbered in the order respondents see them.

Guide: How to run a pupil voice survey
- Feeling safe and happy
For children in Years 3 to 6, best run in the spring: trusted adults, worries and who to tell, falling out with friends, and staying safe online and on games. It shows you where your safeguarding and PSHE teaching is landing and where it is not.
- Playtimes and lunchtimes
For children in Years 3 to 6, best run in the spring or after a change to lunchtime supervision: who they play with, what there is to do, feeling safe outside, the lunch hall and how adults help when things go wrong. It shows you what to change at break and lunch.
- Reading for pleasure
For children in Years 3 to 6, in the autumn and again after a new reading initiative: whether they enjoy reading, choose their own books, are read to and see themselves as readers. It helps you decide where to put time and money for reading.
